Interracial marriage has only been legal in every state in the United States for 48 years, since the 1967 Supreme Court case Loving vs. Virginia that overturned all the laws that made interracial marriage (and interracial sex) illegal and punishable by law.
While interracial dating and marriage is legal, social acceptance runs on a much different timeline. This project, Loving vs. Virginia, is a two year long project examining the state of social acceptance for interracial couples.
This is a living work that is growing, changing and morphing the more I work on it as an artist. It is a work in progress, a collaboration with the community so feedback is very much invited. This project is an invitation to discuss, explore and talk about love with one another.
